If you are looking for a website with simple navigation and a selection of earthy recipes, The Recipe Box is for you. It's a straightforward website with no frills. In fact, apart from a little-used message board and a handful of cooking links, this website is all about the recipes. The search engine that's available for searching the site is relatively quick -- nothing fancy, but that's not what The Recipe Box is about.

Since it really is about the recipes, let's get down to business. Here's a list of the types of recipes included:

  • Appetizers
  • BBQ
  • Beverages
  • Breads
  • Cakes
  • Candies
  • Casseroles
  • Cookies
  • Crockpot
  • Desserts
  • Fish
  • Meats
  • Pasta
  • Pies
  • Poultry
  • Salads
  • Soups
  • Vegetables
While some of the categories are a bit thin -- like Crockpot with two lonely recipes -- others have some gems among them. For example, under the Poultry section, you can find keepers like Shrimp-stuffed Chicken Breasts. All in all, you're best off using the search engine to find something specific -- but the selection of recipes is thin enough to browse through as well ... a definitive downside in this chef's book.

If you are looking for traditional church picnic fare, The Recipe Box holds some of the classics as well as recipes that take a new look at hearty meals. If you long for the days when the web was home to college websites, government projects and cute personal homepages, this site will be a breath of fresh air. Let's hope someone out there keeps it growing!
