In that spirit, I'm sharing one of my all-time favorite candy bar recipes. Much richer than a traditional cookie or bar recipe, this treat really deserves the title "candy bar" ... with it's rich caramel infused bottom layer, a rich chocolate center and crunchy walnuts topping it, you will find guests unable to resist another taste!
As always, I encourage you to share your recipe ideas and comments. You can always post comments in the discussion board using the forms provided in the articles or email me directly at . Enjoy!
Quick Walnut Candy Bars
- 1 stick butter
- 1/2 c. packed dark brown sugar
- 34 saltine crackers -- crushed
- 1 c. chocolate chips
- 1 c. chopped walnuts
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Lightly spray an 8 x 8-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the brown sugar and mix until dissolved. Bring the mixture to a boil and allow to boil for 3 minutes without stirring. Remove the mixture from the stove and add the cracker crumbs. Mix thoroughly and press into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 7 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven and evenly sprinkle the chocolate chips over the cracker mixture. Return to the oven for an additional 2 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and carefully spread the melted chocolate into a smooth layer. Sprinkle the chocolate evenly with the chopped nuts and carefully press the nuts into the chocolate using a spatula. Cool completely before cutting and serving.
