Welcome to the November issue of Seasoned Cooking. November brings the start of the holiday entertaining season and many opportunities for home chefs. Whether it’s making sure there are snacks and sweets on hand for unexpected guests or planning a large meal like the one gracing the table on Thanksgiving, even people who enjoy cooking can become overwhelmed. That’s where we come in. This month, we’re offering ideas to get you through a busy month … from planning menus to making sure dinner’s on the table when things get busy.

We begin with a couple easy and inspired dinner ideas for busy times. First, at Phil’s International Flair, an introduction to fusion cuisine brings Asian and Mexican culture together to make a south-of-the-border stir-fry that’s sure to impress! And the stir-fry theme continues in the Rush Hour column. With turkey leftovers sure to be in your future, we’re offering a great way to use some in a simple and healthy turkey stir-fry. Stir-frying is a great way to use leftovers and save time this month.

Moving on to the Thanksgiving holiday itself, we find ourselves at the Kitchen Focus column and its focus this month is planning the big meal. Anyone planning such a large event will appreciate the hints and tips for saving time, effort and money. For example, making desserts a few days in advance will save you a lot of hassle. And if you’re wondering about what to make, try the simple pecan bars that are featured in the Happy Endings column this month. They can easily be made in advance and they are so much easier than making a pecan pie from scratch!

Finally, before I leave you to the articles in this month’s issue, I want to encourage you all to read this month’s Health and Fitness column. Mike is covering an important topic that can literally save a life: how to take an active role in your health care. It’s advice that he has used in his own battle against cancer and we all wish him the best as he continues that battle. So take some time to read this article, it could save your life or that of someone you love. It’s something to be truly grateful for … and isn’t that what Thanksgiving is all about?
